CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – West Creek High football is entering their second season with head coach Rob Gallowitz leading the pack, and the Coyotes have their eyes set on winning close games.
West Creek compiled a record of 4-6 during the 2022-23 season but went out on a positive note. During their last two games of the season, they won each contest while outscoring their opponents by a total of 64-21.

However, Gallowitz said last year his program played everyone close, but lost some hard-fought games. Following his comments, he quoted the late coach Bobby Bowden who once said, “First you lose big. Then you lose close. Then you win close. And finally, you win big.”
The head coach said that winning those close games will be his team’s philosophy for the 2023-24 season.
Gallowitz mentioned a variety of position groups have impressed him this off-season, which includes his running backs. He said last year their team identity was built around spreading the ball out through the air. This year, they plan on building their identity by relying heavily on their running game.
Gallowitz said that their offensive lineman has also impressed, which will only add value to their ground game. As for their defensive, he said that his inside linebackers, defensive line and defensive backs have all made strides this off-season.
Offensive and defensive philosophy
The Coyotes offensive coaching staff has constructed their system to make it simplistic for players, according to Gallowitz. He said that they won’t have a long list of plays, rather, will have numerous plays they can really rely on to move the ball.

He said that teams in the playoffs are generally teams who run the ball well, so hard-nosed running will be their vocal point.
West Creek’s defense on the other hand is all about being gap sound and taking away an opponent’s ability to run the ball. Gallowitz said that they tried to make the defense simplistic as well, so his players don’t think as much and can just react.
