Transfer news LIVE: Man Utd's Amrabat compromise, Liverpool chase Gravenberch, Chelsea target Palmer

Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are among the clubs hoping to complete late deals in the final two days before the summer transfer window closes on Friday evening

Football Digest: Man Utd to be active ahead of transfer deadline

The summer transfer window is down to its final stages and that usually means plenty of exciting late deals, some surprises and plenty of chaos.

Manchester United are set to be among the busiest of the Premier League clubs, with Erik ten Hag desperate to strengthen his side in two positions. United are in negotiations with Chelsea over a loan deal for left-back Marc Cucurella, after losing Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia to injury, while Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat or Tottenham's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could arrive to bolster the midfield.

Liverpool have two main focuses: warding off interest in Mohamed Salah from Al-Ittihad and signing another midfielder. Saudi Arabian sides have been targeting the Reds all summer and don't look to be done yet, with their window open until September 20. Meanwhile, Liverpool are in talks with Bayern Munich over Ryan Gravenberch.

Chelsea have spent over £350million on transfers this summer but aren't done yet. Manchester City star Cole Palmer has emerged as their primary target at the end of the window – and they are determined to get the deal done.

Manchester City have sealed a transfer for Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes, while Arsenal and Tottenham still have business left to complete. It's going to be busy one....

Stay tuned today for the latest transfer updates from the Premier League and beyond...

City not replacing Palmer

Manchester City will not try to replace Cole Palmer if - as expected - his move to Chelsea goes through.

The MEN reports that the £55m arrival of Jeremy Doku, ostensibly to replace Riyad Mahrez, will mean no late scramble for a replacement.

They will also let James McAtee leave on loan once Matheus Nunes has been signed.

Palmer is poised to leave for Chelsea, who are going to return with an improved bid after their initial offer of £35m was rejected yesterday. They may go as high as £45m.

Man Utd netting £20m from Henderson

Dean Henderson has completed his £20million move from Manchester United to Crystal Palace.

Henderson completed a medical earlier in the week and has signed a five-year contract, with an official announcement expected today. He is expecting to be the No1 at Selhurst Park.

Luton signing Man Utd youngster

Luton Town are close to signing defender Teden Mengi from Manchester United.

Mengi, 21, has previously spent time on loan with Derby and Birmingham, but is now sealing a permanent move to the newly-promoted side.

Luton have also spoken to Arsenal about Rob Holding, who has also attracted interest from Mallorca and Sevilla.

Brighton front of queue for Fati

Ansu Fati has proven to be the joker in the pack over the last few days in the transfer window.

With Barcelona needing wiggle room with financial fair play in order to register Joao Cancelo from Manchester City, they have decided to send one of their brightest young stars out on loan for the season.

The clubs queued up for his services - and now it seems Brighton have won the race and landed themselves quite the coup.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the Seagulls have agreed to take Fati on loan for the 2023/24 season by agreeing to pay most of his salary. The 20-year-old forward is reportedly set to travel from Barcelona today to complete the move.

ICYMI - Nunes to City agreed

Manchester City have agreed a £47.27million deal with Wolves for midfielder Matheus Nunes.

City, who will send Tommy Doyle to Molineux on loan for the season with a £4.3million obligation to buy, have landed the Portuguese after he refused to train with the Midlands club in a bid to force through his departure.

Read more here.

Fati to Liverpool feasible - if Salah leaves

Barcelona forward Ansu Fati is open to joining Liverpool and a move would be feasible if Mohamed Salah is sold this summer.

Tottenham have been pushing to sign the Spain international in the closing days of the summer transfer window while Chelsea have also held an interest. Barca are keen on shifting the forward’s wage from their books so they can register the loan signing of Joao Cancelo from Manchester City.

Al-Ittihad to bid £118m for Salah

Al-Ittihad have not been put off by Jurgen Klopp's firm stance on Mohamed Salah and are ready to offer Liverpool £118million for his services, according to the Daily Mail.

Klopp has insisted Salah is not going anywhere, while Salah's agent, Ramy Abbas Issa wrote on X earlier this month: "If we considered leaving LFC this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract last summer. Mohamed remains committed to LFC."

That has not deterred Al-Ittihad, who have reportedly received encouragment over Salah's willingness to move to Saudi Arabia. They are now apparently ready to test Liverpool's stance with a whopping bid.

Amrabat to Man Utd latest

Fiorentina rejected Manchester United's opening bid for Sofyan Amrabat yesterday, but talks will progress today for the midfielder, who is desperate to move.

United initially offered Fiorentina a loan with a €2million (£1.7m) fee payable in two instalments and also wanted a January break clause included in any deal.

The Italian club would love to sell Amrabat permanently, as he’s only under contract until June 2024, but a compromise will be made this late in the window, with the Morocco international frozen out of the squad.

United are hindered by financial fair play, so cannot sign Amrabat on a permanent deal right now. Instead, they are very likely to agree to a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

ICYMI: Liverpool in Gravenberch talks

Liverpool have opened formal talks with Bayern Munich over a deal for Ryan Gravenberch after Manchester United made their move for Sofyan Amrabat.

Gravenberch, 21, has been on the radar of both the Reds and United ahead of Friday's transfer deadline, with the midfielder open to a move after starting just three matches in the Bundesliga last season.

Liverpool and United are both expected to bring in midfield reinforcements before the transfer window shuts - and with United now actively pursuing a move for Amrabat, the path has been cleared for Liverpool to try and strike a deal with Bayern Munich.

Manchester United have agreed to send Donny van de Beek on loan to Lorient for the season, according to Foot Mercato.

Everton no longer chasing Adams

Southampton manager Russell Martin says that Everton are no longer interested in signing striker Che Adams.

Everton signed Beto from Udinese yesterday for £25million and, after seeing a bid rejected for Adams, have stopped pursuing him.

Adams was not included in Saints' squad for their game against QPR on the weekend - a sign many fans took as an impending exit. But Martin says the Scotland international could stay after the Toffees backed off.

“He’s trained really well," he said in a press conference. "There are three scenarios really: we keep Che, we lose Che and we replace him, or we keep Che and we add someone else too. The club who came [Everton] have gone away now. We can’t lose Che Adams and not replace him - it’d be madness.”

Amrabat still waiting on Man Utd

Sofyan Amrabat remains frozen out of the Fiorentina squad while he awaits a bid from Manchester United.

However, talkSPORT says United have now formally approached Fiorentina, asking to take Amrabat on a season-long loan.

Germany international Fullkrug is one of the options being considered up front, alongside Flamengo’s Pedro, Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata and Paris Saint-Germain’s Hugo Ekitike.

Spurs favourites for £50m Johnson deal

Tottenham have been left a clear run at signing £50million Brennan Johnson - but any deal could go right to the wire.

Brentford have had two bids rejected by Nottingham Forest and are now looking at other targets as they look to strengthen before the transfer window shuts on Friday.

Chelsea have also been interested and it remains to be seen whether they return with firm interest as they are determined to strengthen their forward line.
