AI, which stands for Artificial Intelligence, is the ability of a digital computer or robot (computerised) to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, that is a computer programmes that carry out intelligent tasks that have to do with interacting with human beings.
ChatGPT, on the other hand, is a natural language processing tool driven by AI Technology that allows one to have human-like conversations and much more with the chatbot. The language model can answer questions and assist you with tasks, such as composing emails, essays, and codes.
OpenAI launched ChatGPT on November 30, 2022, by San Francisco-based OpenAI (the creator of the initial GPT series of large language models). Its rapid adoption since then by some 100 million users in just its first few months is already changing how the internet will look and feel to users. With both Microsoft and Google incorporating generative AI into their search engines, it seems only a matter of time before other websites adopt some kind of AI-driven interaction.
OpenAI’s new features announced in May could get us there soon enough. Users of its ChatGPT Plus subscription service will be able to use dozens of plug-ins for other websites, and a web-browsing feature that will let them access more current information than the old data set that ChatGPT was trained on.
Chatbots like GPT are powered by large amounts of data and computing techniques to make predictions to string words together in a meaningful way. They not only tap into a vast amount of vocabulary and information, but also understand words in context. They also have the ability to answer factual questions, generate coherent text, and sometimes create coding. ChatGPT can also help improve the user experience by providing quick and accurate responses to user queries. It sometimes generates automated customer service and support functions, which can save businesses time and money.
The ability for ChatGPT to create accurate and comprehensive responses to different kinds of topics relating to different fields, perspectives, and vast knowledge is remarkable!
However, with its power to make acquiring knowledge easier, ChatGPT is not all knowing and sometimes incorrect. It can sometimes provide inaccurate or unhelpful responses, which can frustrate users. Also, to older people who grew up with Internet Relay Chat(IRC)chat rooms, a text instant message system; the personal tone of conversations with an AI bot can evoke the experience of chatting online.
But ChatGPT, the latest in technology known as “large language model tools” doesn’t speak with sentences and doesn’t think the way people do. That means that even though ChatGPT can explain quantum physics or write a poem or command, a full AI takeover isn’t exactly forthcoming, according to experts.
ChatGPT can sometimes give out misleading information to create rumours online that could potentially cause harm and confusion, for example, through realistic looking texts that harbour fake news or misleading information or news.
Additionally, there are concerns about the impact of AI technology on employment, as it could potentially replace human workers in certain industries. The emergence of ChatGPT has also caused laziness in some people, especially students, in the sense that they solely depend on ChatGPT to solve or bring solutions to all or most of their problems, mostly, education wise.
Overall, ChatGPT is an exciting, and educational platform in AI technology, but it is important to consider both its benefits and detriments.
