"The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes has had success in WWE and AEW, and when Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 he was positioned as a top star. Rhodes is an outstanding in-ring performer and he has superb mic skills. Rhodes is currently one of the most popular stars in WWE, and while Rhodes has won many championships, there are some that he has failed to win.
Rhodes will want to go down in history as one of the all-time greats, and as the son of the American Dream, Dusty Rhodes, Cody was under a lot of pressure to succeed. Nevertheless, Cody is a problem solver, and in some of the gimmick matches he's competed in or championships that he's never won, Cody will be motivated to get over the line and achieve those things missing from his accomplishments before he retires.
10 Never Won The United States Championship
The United States Championship is one of the most prestigious championships in the history of professional wrestling. However, it's a championship that Cody has to yet win. He challenged Austin Theory for the United States Championship on an episode of Raw last year, but Seth Rollins cost him the chance to win the title.
Cody may have failed to win the United States Championship but it's a championship that was important in his family as his father and brother Dustin Rhodes have both clinched the championship in their respective careers.
9 Never Won The SmackDown Tag Team Championship
Cody Rhodes' main focus in WWE right now isn't on becoming a Tag Team Champion, but Cody is an established tag team competitor. He's a six-time WWE Tag Team Champion. He's won the World Tag Team Championship twice with Ted DiBiase, two Tag Team Title runs with his brother, Goldust, and one Tag Team Championship reign apiece with Hardcore Holly and Drew McIntyre.
The SmackDown Tag Team Championship is a title that hasn't won in his WWE career. Ironically, the championship was created the same year Cody left WWE for the first time in 2016, and the title is currently unified with the Raw Tag Team Championship as the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.
8 Never Won The Money In The Bank Ladder Match
Unquestionably, Cody Rhodes could have benefitted from winning the Money in the Bank ladder match in his first run in WWE. Cody had won the Intercontinental Championship twice and he was more than capable of being pushed in the right direction as Mr. Money in the Bank.
Cody has competed in four Money in the Bank ladder matches and he was winless in each one. He should have won the 2013 Money in the Bank ladder match over Damien Sandow, even if Cody was a favorite to win the match.
7 Never Won The World Heavyweight Championship
The original World Heavyweight Championship in WWE was in operation for 11 years from 2002-2013, and Cody had chances to win the Big Gold Belt but he never managed to win the title. Cody would have been a fantastic World Heavyweight Champion if he had been given a run with the title.
Triple H reintroduced the World Heavyweight Championship in 2023 and Seth Rollins beat AJ Styles to become the inaugural champion. Cody will most likely get a run with the World Heavyweight Championship in the future but not until he finishes the story as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
6 Never Won King Of The Ring
The King of the Ring tournament was an important tournament that WWE used to hold annually. The likes of Bret Hart, Steve Austin, Triple H, Edge, Brock Lesnar, and Booker T among others have been crowned as King. Cody has failed to win the King of the Ring tournament, and the tournament was set to return in 2023 but it was dashed in favor of Night of Champions.
Cody competed in the 2010 King of the Ring tournament, and he beat Rey Mysterio in the opening round, but his quest was halted in the quarterfinals by eventual finalist, John Morrison. His second time participating in the tournament was in 2015 as Stardust and he lost to R-Truth at the first hurdle in the quarterfinals.
5 Never Won An Elimination Chamber Match
Surprisingly, Cody Rhodes has competed in just one Elimination Chamber match in his WWE career. Cody was the reigning Intercontinental Champion when he competed in the chamber for Daniel Bryan's World Heavyweight Championship at Elimination Chamber 2012.
Cody had the likes of Big Show, Santino Marella, Wade Barrett, and The Great Khali who had aspirations of winning the World Heavyweight Championship. Cody eliminated Show from the match, but Cody was removed from the equation by Santino Marella. It would be a surprise if Cody doesn't compete in another Elimination Chamber match and come out victorious.
4 Never Headlined SummerSlam
SummerSlam is arguably the second biggest premium live event on WWE's calendar, and it is one event that Cody Rhodes has failed to headline. Cody's first SummerSlam in-ring appearance was in 2009 when he teamed up with Ted DiBiase but they came up short to DX.
Cody defeated Damien Sandow in his second SummerSlam match in 2013, and he was Stardust in 2015 when he teamed up with King Barrett and they lost to Neville and Stephen Amell. Furthermore, Cody beat Brock Lesnar in his most recent SummerSlam outing in 2023, but he has yet to go on last and close out the show, which is something he'd want to accomplish.
3 Never Won A WrestleMania Main Event
Cody Rhodes has competed eight times at WrestleMania, and the American Nightmare headlined WrestleMania on his eighth WrestleMania outing in 2023 when he challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship after winning the Royal Rumble match.
Rhodes failed to finish the story with Roman Reigns retaining the gold. However, it's reported that Cody and Reigns will have a rematch at WrestleMania 40 with Cody finally getting over the line by ending Reigns' historic Undisputed WWE Universal Championship run.
2 Never Won The AEW World Championship
Cody Rhodes was one of the top dogs in AEW as an EVP but he never managed to add the AEW World Championship to his collection. The American Nightmare challenged Chris Jericho for the title at Full Gear 2019 but he was unable to beat Le Champion for the title.
Fans began to turn on Cody, and it was bizarre that there was a stipulation that Cody couldn't challenge for the AEW World Championship whilst he was in the company. He had to settle for being the inaugural AEW TNT Champion, a championship he'd win a total of three times.
1 Never Won The WWE Championship
The WWE Championship is the biggest prize in the business, and it's a championship that Cody, his brother, and his father failed to win. The WWE Championship means a lot to Cody, and he will want to have the WWE Championship in his cabinet before he hangs up his boots.
WrestleMania 39 Sunday was the perfect opportunity to hand Cody the WWE Championship from Reigns but WWE opted to have the Head of the Table still at the top of the tree. Unquestionably, Cody will have more opportunities to win the WWE Championship, and for the WWE Universe, it's a matter of "when" and not "if" when it comes down to clinching the WWE Title.
