From a businessperson’s perspective, this shows that your customers are now residing on the internet which is now the best way to attract them towards this business.

This shift is the biggest reason why digital marketing is so in demand now and is seen to be just growing in demand every day.

Today, every business is seen to be heavily invested in digital marketing, employing at least some employees responsible for content marketing, ads management, social media marketing, and web development.

But even these job titles are mere branches of digital marketing that have even more sub-niches in them. For example, web development mostly includes unique job titles such as front-end developer, back-end developer, UI/UX designer, programmer, and web developer. 

And with time, we are only seeing newer digital marketing job titles being introduced that are more important and in demand than anything else. For example, with the recent progress that AI has made, the digital marketing field is now branching out to AI-related roles where professionals help businesses market their products and services using AI by analyzing and forecasting patterns and trends in each market.

The only thing we stand certain of is that digital marketing will only grow to be more and more significant in the future for businesses throughout the world since the digital age of humanity has only just begun. If you’re considering a career in digital marketing and want to understand the whole scope of digital marketing careers, instead of going over each job title one by one it is better to understand the main branches of digital marketing.

From these branches, choose whatever interests you and intrigues your passion and find an appropriate job title there for you!

In reality, there are hundreds of ways a business can market there product digitally. From Search Engine Optimization to sliding into the Instagram DMs of your potential customers, any action on the internet that markets a product is considered digital marketing. However, if we look closely, almost all forms of digital marketing have these professionals in common: content writer, graphics, ads manager, website developer, and SEO expert.

This is why, I consider these 5 areas to be the main branches of digital marketing that expand into different sub-niches consisting of unique job titles of all sorts.

1. Content Marketing

Essentially, no marketing is done without content. As far as I can remember, I have never seen a silent ad that displays nothing to read. Content is used in marketing for spreading information, attracting customers, persuading them to choose from you, and for all sorts of other shenanigans.

No matter what your chosen digital marketing platform is, you need a content writer to write its execution. For different digital marketing platforms, different content writers of different skills are needed.

For example, email marketing requires content writers that are informative and persuasive, whereas, blogging requires content writers that have an extensive knowledge of SEO and using keywords in their content naturally. 

Generally, content writers are paid well and are always in demand making it an easier digital marketing career to find a job in since every business needs some form of content to work with on the internet.

Graphics is arguably more important to marketing than even content since the first impression of your business is not what it speaks but what it looks like. But much like content, graphic is also needed for digital marketing in almost every outlet.

Over the years, research has shown subtly significant graphics are to marketing, which helped businesses realize that in order to sell better, they will need to look better as well.

Careers in digital marketing focus more on your technical skills and experience than your educational background, which is why a good degree from the top schools of the world isn’t really the best way to get into digital marketing.

The best way in my opinion would be to enroll in digital marketing courses, whether online or physical. From here, you can consider which digital marketing branch you’re the most passionate about and enroll in advanced courses for that niche.

For the niche of your choice, an academic degree related to that field can certainly improve your chances of making you an expert in your field.

For example, if I’m more passionate about ads management, the best way for me to start would be to enroll in digital marketing courses focused on running ad campaigns such as PPC and SMM ads, and simultaneously study a degree in Business, Marketing, or Communications.

Once you have a strong foundation in your digital marketing career, the best way to grow is by getting a job related to your field that will help you learn more from an office environment and creating your own profile that showcases your projects and can help you create an identity of your own.
